awards 2008

WorldStar President's Award
Presented by the World Packaging Organisation, WorldStar are the pre-eminent international awards in packaging which illustrate the continual advancement of the state of packaging art and create a living standard of international packaging excellence from which others may learn.

WorldStars are presented only to those packages which, having already won recognition in a national competition, are compared by an expert panel of judges to similar packages from around the world.
Award winners are judged for the 'best of the best' of all packaging through the President's Award.

Awarded this ultimate prize at a ceremony in Accra, Ghana, In May 2008, was the Heineken® TenCan Beer Keg developed jointly by Heineken Beer Systems and Impress Group BV. The first rigid metal container to receive the award, the keg comes with a patented integrated pressure system to keep the beer fresh for 30 days after opening.

Nominated for the President's Award for 2008 was the Easylift Tab designed by Crown Food Europe.
The Easylift tab builds on the company's Eole technology and was trialed with Nestlé pet food in the Netherlands.

Cans of the Year Awards
Organised by The Canmaker Magazine, Cans of the Year Awards have championed the cause of the can and since their inception have grown in size and stature to achieve international recognition. The Awards were introduced to celebrate, promote and reward the huge amount of innovative, ground-breaking work that takes place within the metal packaging industry each year.

The winner of the 2008 Can of the Year Award was the world's first commercially available re-sealable drinks can from Ball Packaging Europe. The can, produced for Coca-Cola’s energy drink Burn, uses a design that has been developing for more than five years. The re-sealable end prevents drinks from spilling after being opened and maintains carbonation.
